Peru’s Highest Mountains:

Huascaran and the Cordillera Blanca
August 4-14, 2025;
Machu Picchu Extension, Aug. 14-18

The world’s highest tropical mountain range. Endemic birds and orchids.
Ancient Andean culture. Seriously fun birding and nature exploration!

In the Ancash province of western Peru, Huascaran National Park and the Cordillera Blanca paint a picture you might only see in postcards. Massive craggy mountains covered in large glaciers look down upon bright blue alpine lakes. Widespread stands of Polylepis and Gynoxis forests represent the world’s highest flowering trees. The Cordillera Blanca features 17 peaks over 6,000 m (19,685 ft.) and over 700 glaciers. Huascaran Peak—the mother of the Peruvian Andes—rises to 6,757 m (22,169 ft.), and its namesake national park holds the lofty status of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. From the towns of Huaraz and Caraz, you can send postcards home while immersing yourself in the reality of this incredible region. This is not your usual Tropical nature experience!
